Can someone still get an infection after 6 months of having their appendix removed?

I had the laparoscopic appendectomy surgery about 6 months ago, and I have recently been feeling pain inside where the appendix was located at. I would like to know if there is any chance that I might have in infection or something that might have to be checkd asap by a doctor. The pain is pretty painful at times and I really don't know what to do. Please help.
